  1. Cann´t believe this thread is almost a year old, but Im now closer than ever to finishing this small but quite tedious proyect 😅. Over the last few months Ive tried many diferent ways to do the dreads, but none really worked so I ended up printing resin molds to cast silicone with and now they are almost done. If anyone is looking to do the same some info that may help is that 3d printing resin is famous for causing cure inhibition to platinum cured silicone , but waiting some time after printing solves the problem, no extra curing, special paint or leaving the prints outside needed, I only had to wait one week after printing with elegoo resin and there was no cure inhibiton at all. In the meantime I wasn´t 100% happy with how the heads came out, specially the open mouth one so I tweaked the sculpts and printed that one as a test. After some paint it´s looking much better now still need to redo this one at some point: Hopefully they are both no longer bold by the end of the year, will post an update as soon as they are finished Also have a p2 and masked head in the works, hopefully early 2024 I can post some updates on those 😅
  2. Thanks Gene, George the owner of inmortal masks? 😮 I´m a big fan of their work Im gonna run some tests with chalk pastels tomorrow, hopefully it won´t inhibit the silicone from curing.
  3. Hi guys, Im planning on doing 1/2 silicone busts and wanted to reach out for help to the experts on the forum. I can find platinum silicone locally, but no pigments and ordering online is sadly not really an option. Can oil paint or grinded chalk pastels be used to pigment the silicone?
  4. Thanks Kithunter, I want to offer a few at some point, but I´m not 100% sure yet, it really depends on how well the next step goes, hardest one imo, casting around 50 mini 1/6 scale silicone dreads for each head😵. I´ve never worked with platinum cured silicone, not sure how easy it could be to work with. Im really worried about bubbles since I don´t own a vacuum chamber. Also wanted to ask if anyone has tried using silicone caulk and corn starch/baby powder to make quills? I know sugru is the best product to use, but there´s no way to get it in my country 😕. Managed to get the second head and the bust ready paint wise, Im a bit happier with the paint on this head. I do need to redo the collar around 10% smaller tho. Needed to snap a pic with the feral 😂,made that guy as soon as the movie released, so it isn´t really accurate
  5. I, of course, never met Stan, but I still owe the man so much. Some of my favorite characters came out of Stan Winston Studios, and their work was the main reason I got into sculpting. Countless hours attempting over and over to get as close as possible to their work, wowing at how real each character that came out of the studio looked, really pushed me forward to keep getting better at my craft and I will forever be thankful for that. Thank you Stan.
  6. Thanks! All the sculpting was done on zbrush
  7. Thanks Gene. Im no 3d printing expert myself, but with the proper prepping it could be printed in any size. My resin printer could fit a 1/4 scale head tops, but there are bigger resin printers out there, they are just way out of my price range. It´s also cheaper to print in a bigger scale using plastic filament printers, but the detail gets lost quite a bit and overall I´ve got zero experience with them so I don´t really know what the process of printing something like this would be
  8. Thanks guys, working on this really makes me appreciate the work you guys do in full suits even more, so much work is going into this and it´s just a small bust I cann´t imagen doing a full life size predator 😅 After many test prints, Im finally good with the size of it, here´s the final test print of the open mouth head on the hot toys figure, Im still refining the paint job, don´t want to go too far away from the hot toys body
  9. Thanks for the kind words guys, sculpt is finally done (except a close mandibles head and possibly a masked one later on), keying and mold making are the next steps (Im gonna 3d print a mold to be able to do silicone dreads). Hopefully I will be able to print most of it next weekend
  10. Thanks Gene, I definitely agree. The eyes on mine need to have more character, they are quite sunken in already, but maybe they could be a bit higher and deeper like in the movie still As far as a goal for it, it´s been my goal for years to make the ultimate jungle hunter and city hunter portraits. Of course, there are companies like Prime one that have nailed it much better, but I´ve done a traditionally sculpted lifesize, 1/3 and now this digital one that will be printed in 1/6 and so far this is my best attempt yet. Nowadays, I mostly sculpt 1/6 heads/ busts and I figured out that other than a bust, this could work as a head for the classic predator from hot toys, since many collectors like to turn their classic into the original jungle hunter. It is a passion project, but I will be offering a few heads to whoever´s interested.
  11. Hi, just wanted to leave a quick update on the proyect. I basically redid the eyes and mouth, and tweaked some proportions of the head to make it a bit more accurate. I threw in a quick, dirty paintjob and render and I can see theres still room for improvement so any comments/suggestions are very welcomed and would be of much help
  12. Im planning to have all silicone dreads for the p1 heads, beads included and dreads with no beads for the p2 preds since there was a lot of customization between the hunters of the lost tribe
  13. Thanks Gene, it would be great. Currently it has 58 holes. I made them using pics I could find of Morris costumes/ Stan Winston heads around the internet as reference, but it may still not be 100% right. As for the texture, it was a mixture of improvisation and reference, since it's not gonna be seen too much with the dreads on. Writing this made me realize I will have to cast 58 dreads for each head I'm planning to make 😬, thankfully it will be at 1/6 scale so many can be made at the same time.
  14. Thanks guys! I paid a lot of attention to the patterns of the skin texture and detail. For a long time it has been my goal to make one of the most accurate portraits of the jungle hunter and eventually the city hunter, this is like my third attempt at it 😅. I will never get it as good as Matt Rose did, it´s just imposible to match his talent, but so far im happy with how it´s going. Amazing score and reference pics btw, I will definetly use them to improve my sculpt.
  15. Quick update, after hours and hours of neverending detail the head is close to been done 😃
