  1. Dry fitting the SLA resin metal parts onto the updated Feral 3d model. Really happy with the results of this one. Still using off the shelf parts for the lights, waiting on some battery holders to come in before trying to play around with the LED noodles.
  2. the green distressing on the Feral Bio is a really nice touch! Definitely makes the tri-laser shroud POP!
  3. Got some really amazing photos from friend, I posted the link to the larger album link in the hunterslair discord.
  4. Prey helmet #2. Hoping to rework some parts of the model in the new year. I'm also waiting on some lengths of something called LED noodles, hopefully i can comeup with a more elevated lighting array for these as well.
  5. I can't speak for all 3d modelers, but if you pay for a model you really shouldn't be editing it any further. Some artists might feel differently, but in my opinion its a lot like recasting.
  6. thanks for the kind words ! The suggestion for a head is definitely a tempting proposal, but i feel this helm is better suited for wall display. besides i have a few casts of a custom mask i still have to get around to finishing before i start a whole new sculpt 😆
  7. Finally finished! Had a blast working through this! It's been unimaginably fun working in the predator universe again.
  8. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08TMGYHX3?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details we used one of these and used uv resin to seal them into the mask for good.
  9. We used an off the shelf set of 20ft 2AAbattery fairy leds, with our limited (see also: none) experience in electronics we felt it safer to take this route. All of the lights are easily controled by a toggle switch, and has a fade/off feature. On the inner side of the mask I sculpted a small trenchway to accommodate the tiny leds, everything is still just dry fit so its a bit like a rats nest of cable. Hoping to have a few hours to get everything attached down for good tomorrow.
  10. Wanted to split off a separate thread to use as a general 3d modeling thread. I am by no means an expert in 3d modeling and I'm always open to hearing new ideas/workflows/constructive criticisms. One of the first objects I ever wanted to sculpt on my own was Ahabs Engineer Rifle from the Fire and Stone (?) comics. Its such a neat design and I feel that in all of the prometheus media its the only prop that blends biomechanics into utility in a way that both makes sense and is pleasing to look at. This model is maybe the 4th or 5th iteration i've worked on over the years and the first that i've felt any confident in sharing. Its still in its blocking phase, trying to get all the right shapes in the right spots. I'm struggling between making it as accurate as possible and really letting loose with ye olde creative license.
  11. Update: Have most of the paint blocked out and dry fitting the LEDS and just WOW this came out so much better than I could have ever anticipated!
  12. the next step is to coat the print in some self leveling resin to smooth out the surface and fill in layer lines, then we're going to mask off the cracks and give it a nice coat of black primer and go from there! Actually heard from Sara today, they were very kind enough to post some lit up pictures like this on their instagram!
  13. it was a long 172 hour print but its finally finished! Now onto the hard-er part, post processing and paints!
  14. no joke, been waiting to see this project come to fruition since 2009! Goodluck on the mold!
  15. lol yeah i really want to print a bunch of this stuff too XD ! My printers are tied up for a bit while longer before I can get to print some of my own.
  16. taking a small break from the predator stuff to focus on some other comissions, but hoping to take another swing at the helmet later this month.
  17. I like to look for every opportunity for improvement among my failures. Its so much easier to visualize the nuances of proportion when holding the object in hand. Definitely want to rework the model and thin out the sculpt so that it has much less internal geometry. Definitely going to need to retighten the belts and get some more filament before trying again.
  18. nooooooo. woke up late this morning and slept through my filament run out alarms. So our print failed at about 75% T____T Even though it failed that the print actually came out much better than I had hoped.
  19. not much of an update, but we should be crossing the 50% threshol today.
  20. Misinterpreted the proximity mine , turns out it was actually the net.
  21. really just going for it i guess, Prey has really re-set in that "you want to make Predator stuff" itch. With the concept art that came out today I couldn't resist trying my hand at the chain clamp. I've never tried to print any of those "print-in-place" articulated toys that are popular on Cults, let alone try and model one. Going to try and squeeze this onto a resin printer tonight.
  22. I'm glad I can help! Admittedly I've only been using blender for about 2/3 years, I sometimes find it difficult to explain my work as I feel like I learn something new with every single object I make! I think currently we are waiting for another ~140 hours till the first print is finished. provided there are no errors. yes and no. My largest resin print beds are about 192*120*250mm and 192*120*200mm , so printing it at 1:1 scale would be a bit difficult, it would maybe end up being a 6/8 piece print. If I can find sometime between my commission work i'll give it a shot in resin! My hope is that I can save up some funds and get an even larger resin printer in the next few months, dreaming of the Phrozen Mega 8k. My test print is going onto my Cr10s4 fdm printer and the settings iirc are : Material : Hatchbox Black 1.75mm filament Nozzle Temp : 210 Bed Temp : 60 Layer Height : .12mm Infill : 5% Walls : 4 my hope is that it will be a good balance of durability and weight. If this test print comes out well I plan to print a second version is translucent filament and try my hand at some of the crazy lighting details the helmets have in the behind the scenes images. THANK YOU BOTH FOR THE KIND WORDS!
  23. sorry for double posting, but i did one of the mines as well. I made 2 versions, one static and solid, the other split into front and back with room for electronics/LEDs !
  24. Hello! I am Leggs, and over the past few years I've been learning how to sculpt in a program called Blender. Blender is a free program with plenty of resources and tutorials online that can help just about anyone start sculpting. After seeing Prey I knew I had to sculpt the Feral Predators helmet. I first started with collecting screenshots from the film and blocking out the basic shape. sculpt1 Very shortly after reaching this point all of the Behind the scenes images started being released which prompted me to quickly...start over. sculpt #2 was already off to a great start, but admittedly with the frequency of references being released i soon got a bit overwhelmed and restarted a 3rd and 4th time. Unfortunately i do not have many screenshots of these two sculpts. I felt fairly confident in this 4th sculpt, I even tried to use Blenders vertex paint tools to try and mockup some color. Admittedly shading and applying textures/colors to models is not my strongest skill. Finally after another week of fiddling, noodling, and other various refining, i finally homed in on something that I felt confident in test printing. I'm SURE that its not 100% accurate but its good enough for me, for now. Chances are I'lll work on this again in the future, still feels like some of the proportions are just.....not quite there yet. What do you think? I'd love to hear any kind critiques and constructive criticisms!
  25. Not quite finished or polished enough to start its own thread just yet, but my current sculpt of the main bone portion of Ferals helmet. I've been working through different iterations for the past week, it seems like references/conceptart were released every other day.
