Elder Head (Greyback)

Greetings all!
I wanted to break down the process of how I created my elder predator bust/mask for anyone who was ever interested in trying to do something similar.
Ultimately, the idea stems from the creation of the original elder and how those talented artists at Stan Winston Studios brought the predator known as Greyback to life. Utilizing a head from the original predator film, they modified the mask by adding foam latex prosthetics to give the creature minor variations that set it apart from the Jungle Hunter as seen in P1.
I decided to do the same. Using one of my own P1 masks that I sculpted (the process of which can be read here...
https://www.thehunterslair.com/topic/2745-p1-jungle-hunter-mask/ ), I used foam clay to make new mandibles and a ton of little horns in various sizes. Once those were firm, I attached them to the mask. I then made a mixture of cabopatch (part prosaide/part fumed silicate) and applied that to the forehead to create a more pronounced, wrinkled texture than was found in my original sculpt.
Once that was dry, it was time to paint and bring the elder to life, liver spots, and all. Utilizing reference photos from Stan Winston Studios was the best route to see the colors and patterns on the original, along with some additional photos I found here on the Lair and elsewhere.
Once I was wrapping up completion of the painting, I began making the quills, dreads, and the numerous styles of beads that would adorn the dreads. In reality, that was one of the most time-consuming parts, I ended up sculpting and molding a lot of dread beads.
Then came the painting of each to look like various metals, bone, wood, and attaching leather, teeth, and all the other fun little things that would make even Jack Sparrow envious.
Fortunately for the long bead strands that dangle among the dreads, I just utilized store bought beads for those and strung various color combinations that resembled what the original sported.
And so that's how my Greyback mask/bust came to be. One of the oldest tricks in the Predator hobby. A lot of us started out this way or did a version of it. Simply put, you get a generic halloween costume muscle suit. Stuff it. Then coat it with latex. Add texture. Paint it and you've got yourself some body skins. Scott, Mannowar posted a thread which exists on another forum. Thought I would copy paste it here. This is a new build I am doing for a client, the original idea was a brother boar styled build but that changed a little. The body will be as you can see from the pics p2 orientated but the paint will be dark, dank tribal styled similar to the pics I've attached.. At the moment I've parts arriving and and I'm playing with some small trophies but over the coming weeks I should have a lot more.

Seeing as I am a nut for all things Predator 2. My favorite of all the films. Partly because I am a 90s kid but mostly due to the expanded universe they created with the City Hunter. Weapons, tactics and of course we see the Predator ship and the Lost Hunter Clan. Its hard to beat and is an excellent stand alone film. I missed the boat the first time around on these disc's from Hollywood Collectibles Group. Glad they are remaking them so I can get my hands on one. I preordered this already. Well I figured start some of my most current work,I did this over year ago it was repaint I was hell bent on I really capture Jason's work he did for neca when they where making prototype back in 2018. Once this released three years ago that was my goal not mention I wasn't fan of stock paint neca did,lemme just dam... time flies. But he was really fun to do simple repaint I assume some of you may seen original version here. He's really cool love Steven Wang homages they did other artist..I forget idk what neca had agreed on with Wang but I'm glad made him. Lemme know that you guys think! Enjoy stay tuned for more.😉

This was a build i did for a client/friend i think in 2018. he got it in terrible shape with MASSIVE seamlines, parts from several vendors and lots just being damaged. i think i managed to save it well enough. and couldnt resist putting my silicone P1 head on at the end.

Weathering Skulls (Sergeant Mac Eliot)
I wanted to put together a quick tutorial on painting/weathering to show one method for bringing some realism to a fake skull. In this case it'll be how I made my Sergeant Mac Eliot trophy skull. With halloween around the corner, Skulls and bones will be plentiful and for those with access to a 3D printer there are always plenty of files available for free or to purchase online. For this specific trophy, I found a free skull on Thingiverse and printed that on a resin printer. Now Mac's trophy skull is famous for the plasma cannon hole and burn mark as seen in the reference photo here. So, first step was punching a hole into the skull. From there I used snips and files to shape the hole how I wanted it to look and removed a tooth. After that I painted it white since I originally printed it in a gray resin. I also added a semi gloss coating to help seal the white before further weathering and to give it that polished bone look. Then it was on to weathering with washes. For this I used four colors. Burnt sienna, burnt umber, injury ochre, and black and waited for each watery wash to dry with a hair dryer before moving onto the next. Here is a photo of the skull as each color went on. I went with just enough washes to give it some depth and grime without making it look old aged since I was going for a fresher look for Mac's kill like in the reference photo so the skull wouldnt be that antiquated looking. Then I used an airbrush to add the final scorch mark around the wound. And that wraps up how I put together a quick Mac trophy skull that can be used for display or as an addition for a costume. The sketch "Crash" is hovering over is the the one that became the final concept. He modified the upper palate and removed the extra teeth. As as far as I know, anyway. But.... on the other hand he could've redrawn the whole thing without the extra teeth, but they had limited time to create the Predators for "P2," so I don't think starting over would've been ideal. Unless he's like super fast.

That's a good point. They could've used Shellac. You can buy clear shellac or "Amber" Shellac (which would've accented the gold aspects of the helmet). However, Shellac is not water resistant, and scenes involving water probably would've messed with the helmets finish. I dunno.
