City Hunter Paint Tutorial
NeoKazama posted a topic in Paint, Techniques and Weathering,
Here is a quick step-by-step guide on how I painted this helmet. There are many ways to paint bios and this is just an alternative method to achieve the metallic look.

Elder Head (Greyback)
Jparr3085 posted a topic in Masks, Dreds, Body Skins, Hands/Feet,
Greetings all!
I wanted to break down the process of how I created my elder predator bust/mask for anyone who was ever interested in trying to do something similar.
Ultimately, the idea stems from the creation of the original elder and how those talented artists at Stan Winston Studios brought the predator known as Greyback to life. Utilizing a head from the original predator film, they modified the mask by adding foam latex prosthetics to give the creature minor variations that set it apart from the Jungle Hunter as seen in P1.
I decided to do the same. Using one of my own P1 masks that I sculpted (the process of which can be read here...
https://www.thehunterslair.com/topic/2745-p1-jungle-hunter-mask/ ), I used foam clay to make new mandibles and a ton of little horns in various sizes. Once those were firm, I attached them to the mask. I then made a mixture of cabopatch (part prosaide/part fumed silicate) and applied that to the forehead to create a more pronounced, wrinkled texture than was found in my original sculpt.
Once that was dry, it was time to paint and bring the elder to life, liver spots, and all. Utilizing reference photos from Stan Winston Studios was the best route to see the colors and patterns on the original, along with some additional photos I found here on the Lair and elsewhere.
Once I was wrapping up completion of the painting, I began making the quills, dreads, and the numerous styles of beads that would adorn the dreads. In reality, that was one of the most time-consuming parts, I ended up sculpting and molding a lot of dread beads.
Then came the painting of each to look like various metals, bone, wood, and attaching leather, teeth, and all the other fun little things that would make even Jack Sparrow envious.
Fortunately for the long bead strands that dangle among the dreads, I just utilized store bought beads for those and strung various color combinations that resembled what the original sported.
And so that's how my Greyback mask/bust came to be. Hope you enjoyed it, and remember that if you're ever contemplating starting on your own build but holding back because you're unsure how it'll turn out or worry you'll mess up, stop fretting. Don't hesitate any longer. You're in one of the best places you can be for support and knowledge right here at The Hunter's Lair. There's a wealth of resources right at your fingertips and a whole community of fans who treasure this 'ugly mother fuc***' just as much as you, that'll be by your side every step of the way along your own costuming journey! 🤙- 2 replies

So this was the very last pull I ever made from the stunt mold. It’s probably eight years old. I was in a corrosion phase at the time, playing with liquidex texturizing gels and umber and sienna acrylics. I went for this idea of a lost predator helmet that was unearthed .. being that this was the last from the original lineage I ever made .. and the backstory I created for it, I think the Relic is a fitting name

My Predator 2 Body Skins Project. Completed sometime 2009-2010 Part of this topic if the sculpture itself. But seeing as the major part of the work is in fact the molding process. Figured I would plant it in this section. What I learned from this process: Body skins are a huge undertaking. Duct tape dummies work OK. A proper mannequin would be better. * Sculpt the body skins significantly larger to account for latex shrinkage. Don't make ultracl30 gypsum molds again. Ridiculously heavy. WED clay is perfect for this type of larger sculpt. Sculpt muscles and definition much more pronounced and exaggerated, the forms gets lost in latex rubber. …

Here’s some things I’d like to see in the future Predator films (comics and games as well) regarding Yautja characters. I want them to portray the Predators how they are, skilled intergalactic hunters who have basically conquered space and most of it’s races. Many games and certain comics have gotten it right showing us skilled elite Predators who destroy anything standing in their path. In every race there are more skilled individuals than others, with that being said I think they should focus stories on Elite Predators with great skill and having them overcome any opponent. I feel people at times underestimate the Predators’ skills because they base…

Back in the day we were all amazed by the incredible builds by an artist by the name of Pete Mander. Pete would go on to make one of the early Predator Fan Films SEED. He filled the film with an assortment of original Predator designs. Eventually those suits would be sold off, and they sort of disappeared… flash forward a few more years, let’s say circa 2008 and I discovered a random Craigslist ad for a Predator suit about 2 hours north of me. The pics were horrible, but I thought I recognized a distinct crimson armor .. I had to investigate and to my delight I discovered one of my favorite fan made suits, the Bad Blood Predator. It was a bit thrashed but I took it home a…

I am going to ignore everything i made latex which is prior to this build. ( 2004-2009) this was my silicone skinned predator i made in 2010 which i turned into Judge Predd for dragoncon 2013. i do not have all the photo but i think apart from the Darts and Trilaser mines i made everything else from scratch. finished photos first then a random dump of the progress.

Feathers represent my huntress for that she is based of Native American culture. All my jewels I have so far have them and in time when I get others, if I still have any feathers left, i will make some with trophies. these are what I’ve done so far.

Next up on the block from my history of projects is the Brother Boar Bio. I think some people call it the Stalker? Sure... why not. The Sculpture Made using WED clay. A water based clay. So easy to block out shapes and get the basic sculpture formed. MY ALL TIME FAV CLAY. Inexpensive also. But single use only. Sculpture came together very quickly as I had just sculpted the Boar bio. Had my groove figured out and shop was setup for a quick turnaround. Was sculpted over an undersized P1 bio. The Bio was attached to a cast iron pipe/ flange from home depot. The helmet was molded in silicone with a ultracal plaster mothermold. Not sure how many co…

Here is a bit of the process one how i modify or add scars to a mask/suit - in this case i had to create an Ahab mask for a client. After washing the mask with soap and water, i clean it with alcohol. Then used latex flashing ( i always save them, when cutting the excess latex of a mask or suit), to create the scar. Using crazy glue i apply them one by one. Then filled up any small gaps with cotton dipped in latex and shape the scar a bit more by giving the illusion of stretch out skin. The next step is adding a nice coat of liquid latex to smooth and seal the wound. After that is just adding the dreads and the painting process. I will try to make a short tutor…

I made a conscious choice after making my silicone P1 suit in 2010 to avoid working with stinky latex and predators if i could moving forward, since then i changed location globally and started working for myself so this is only the 2nd predator head i had sculpted in that time. i do not have many photos of the sculpt progress, but here is the latest version and i have a cool tweaked version i am finishing up this week, which i will post photos when i have it done.

Sculpted by yours truly way back 2003-2004. This helmet was a creation of the original Hunter's Lair and the original thread it lived in is gone. So I will tell the story of its creation here. We all know the Predator 2 Lost Hunter's ship scene. Well for me that is my favorite movie in the franchise and the Lost Hunter's have always been my obsession. In fact many of the original Lair members are responsible for naming them. Boar, Brother Boar, Gort, Ram, Borg, Elder, P1, Hippie Toys companies changed some of the names over the years. But ah well... My Bio Helmet Creation The sculpture came together well. I would get constant feedback from the o…
