very well made congrats
Polygon
Thanks guys, yeah, in hindsight, the geometric sections on the suit are a bit more geometric than I would like, but I decided to make due with it the best I could. I was thinking in retrospect I probably should have used some kind of soft fabric to place on top of the foam to smooth it out a bit.

Anyways, here is the latest shot of the suit. I made some tweaks to the body and added more midtones to the suit and less black. Today, I will be finishing the right arm "gauntlet" if you will.

ww3sabiture
comeing along well i cant wate to see the helmet
Polygon
I'm also cleaning up my area a bit to start painting the back of the suit, so here is another shot of the suit suspended:

Polygon
For progress today, I blocked in the orange sections on the back of the suit:

My game plan until Halloween is to do the following:

09/15-09/17:

Paint in lights and darks on the back of the suit, perform any tweaks to both sides. Pry suit off of duct tape dummy.

09/17-09/20:

Paint gloves and boots to match the color palette of the suit.

09/20-9/25:

Finish and paint wooden Japanese Bokken sword to resemble the sword used by Jaeger in the game.

09/25-10/15:

Paint mask completely and make any last minute tweaks.
ww3sabiture
if you want you can use my CQB knife i made that can cut fire wood as a base dasine if you want the blade is 8in long
i used a hack saw and a hand file to make the hole thing upsize it and it whould fit your bill just fine (use milde steel)
Polygon
I appreciate the offer, but it wouldn't go with the suit since Gray Fox didn't use such a weapon in the first game if I'm not mistaken.

This is what I plan on using for the sword, and I'll be chroming the blade and doing some other modifications:

Looking good bro!
ww3sabiture
that looks just like my frnds one but his is steel (not sharp but it is taperd to make it look like it is). the steel i used is some scrap steel i had laying around. wasnt ninjas one straight thow? like mine but longer and wider and a little thicker.

if any one wants plans on how to make a set tools for less than $1 send me a pm. most of my tools are ment as tools and combat weapons. hey what can i say im good at makeing things with many uses mostly for combat or survival tho.
ww3sabiture
also if you ever do want to make a steel one let me know iv made sevral but you will need something the heat the steel with and an anvil to give it a good look i would start small tho and make lots of wood (2X4s work well) cut them 12in long and split in half you will need around (depending on you forge size and what your makeing) 20 weel barle loads of wood (half of a weel barle just to warm up the forge then the rest to heat the steel) never let your gard down on the fire it will act strange (not your normal cap fire) wonce its going good you cant toss water on it to put it out it will just relight it self you need sand or dirt to put it out or let it burn out i let mine burn out (so i dont crak my cast iron grate that has fire brik on it) i can send you picks of mine if you want me to
Polygon
Thanks, I was originally considering using real steel, but it's too dangerous, especially if I start drinking, heh.
ww3sabiture
lol well good luck with the sword and the helmet
Polygon
Mannowar sent me some shots of the helmet so far and it looks fantastic. If he doesn't mind, I'll post some shots of it here soon.
ww3sabiture
grate any more updates on the suit?
Uratz
I've been checking on this thread for ages and I just want to see the helmet. Please post it up so I can breathe again. Thanks
Polygon
Hey guys,

Sorry, been busy painting this suit since I got off work today. I will send Mannowar an e-mail to see if it's OK to post it here. I'll keep you guys in suspense- it looks FANTASTIC, even in its sculpted state.

In the meantime, I just finished painting the back of the suit. Tomorrow, I'm going to apply the sealant, either matte or gloss to keep the paint sticking. I have enough of the gloss paint, but someone suggested I should use matte instead for this suit.

Depending on how much time I have in between doing that, I may also start on the gloves or just wait till Wednesday to start.

ww3sabiture
looks good keep up the good work
Polygon
Just picked up Liquitex satin varnish to seal the acrylic paint today. I'll put 1-2 coats per side before taking it off the duct tape dummy.

I'll probably go ahead and start painting the gloves since it won't take much time to put the varnish down.

Yeah, it's just that the black mesh material initially absorbs a portion of the paint, so I'm going to put on a 2nd coat so it's more solid.

i play paint ball and i have some gloves that have some of that mesh on them you will need more than that maby 3 or 4 just depends on how thick the paint is
Maaku Tarquin
OMG that is soooo lush lol

Yeah, probably, I was going to use latex on the gloves but I'm a bit concerned about shrinkage and such. I think acrlyics + adhesive and a varnish at the end should be enough hopefully.

that might work real well

Hey guys,

Made more tasty progress tonight, I got one glove completely finished, received my wooden sword that I will be painting up soon, and have been applying the varnish on my suit.

Here are some pics:

Wow. I like how the colors look and everything. I can't wait to see the helmet smile.gif

Here's the sculpt of the lid... to be molded in the next few days... these photos were taken before I did any detail smoothing so I could get some reference photos to George, but it's smooted out now and ready to mold as soon as I finish a pred suit build that's taking up most of my space at the moment. This one will be molded for latex casting due to time constraints, as the design George wanted in resin would take a bit more time to design, sculpt and mold for a flip up face mask. I may tweak it out in a couple months and redesign it for silicone molding for a resin cast, but that will depend a lot on how badly damaged the sculpt gets when I demold it... I'll have it molded SOON George!
Polygon
Hey,

Thanks Mannowar for posting the helmet, it's going to be a blast to paint up!

Here is my progress for this evening:

I finished up both gloves, the one on the left is a bit wet from the sealant which I'm going to also apply to the glove on the right tomorrow. Also, on Friday, I will get started on the shoes, then the sword, and eventually the lovely helmet once I get it!

ww3sabiture
do you have any CAD drawings of that you are willing to share? my friend wants to try to mount a cammera on a helmet and have a HUD on the inside. that helmet would be great for makeing it work like he wants to
ww3sabiture
no more updates?
Polygon
Haven't had a chance to work on anything more, probably tomorrow I will have a WIP of the boots.
ww3sabiture
cant wate
Polygon
Bad news guys- the suit fell apart. When I removed it from the duct tape dummy, the painted started flaking off and ultimately, it shrank too much to be worn.

I think I might end up purchasing a deluxe venom suit or something along those lines and repainted it like I did with my predator suit. Sorry guys for the bad news.

Edit: I found that the Iron Man deluxe costume looks a lot like my ninja character, and hopefully, with any luck, I can mod that to look like our guy.
ww3sabiture
sad.gif srry to hear that and you had put so much work into it also.
Uratz
Dang, That sucks. Maybe next time can do tests on say arm part. maybe just do experiments? Your next suit will be much better from this knowledge.
Even Iron Man had a Mach 2 to work out the kinks for Mark 3. Good luck
ONE END
This is oh so true...

Sorry to hear the news... =(

Good luck don't give up your suit was looking good.
Polygon
Thanks guys, I'm not giving up. With any luck, I will have a new suit in time for Halloween!
ww3sabiture
good luck with your next one
Polygon
Also, I should mention that this isn't a complete disaster- I still have my gloves/boots/sword/ and the mask which is coming soon.

ww3sabiture
yep
Polygon
The ninja is back!

I got my Iron Man deluxe muscle costume in today which was perfect timing all things considered. So today, I spent so time modifying the suit and adding foam upholstery bits just like before.

The key difference between this mark II suit and the mark I is the fact that I'm using a muscle suit. Which means that it already features defined shoulders/biceps/chest/leg muscles. This means that I do not have to add as much upholstery foam to convey certain areas, and gives the muscles a softer look than before. So tonight, I finished the front, and basically just added the major armor sections which needed definition on the suit.

Before:

After:

Tomorrow, I'll be working on the back side in terms of adding foam bits. I'm hoping that by Wednesday, I can begin latexing both sides of the suit. For this mark II ninja suit, I plan on having much less latex, probably around 2-3 coats.

Anyways, enjoy!
Uratz
Good luck and don't forget to try things out in small portion before u waste too much latex paint.
In any case you should still do the helmet which I'm interested in seeing!
This suit is looking very good already with the neatly cut sponges smile.gif
Polygon
Thanks,

About the latex shrinkage- this suit is MUCH larger than the mark I. I made sure to stuff this suit with a lot of newspaper where it should actually shrink just right to fit my physique.

Mannowar is still doing the helmet, I just need to see where he is with it now.
YAUJA WARRIOR
sry to hear bout the old suit sad.gif
cant wait for more pics of this one tho bigthumb.gif looking good!
