Full Version: my dred bead/ring measurement

Last night I sat down and thought about how to get the most accurate measurement for the rings/beads/braids in the Predator's dreds.

I paused a screenshot in P1 of the pred sitting in a tree, patching his wounded leg- I got a tape measure and measured one of the straight dreds that was showing on the screen, which had 3 rings on it. The length of the dred on the screen is 11", and my actual dred is 24". I had to dust off some age-old algebra skills, but I measured one of the rings on the screen image and it was roughly .75". I don't remember the name of the formula, but you basically write out a fraction where you have .75 on top and 11 on the bottom, and then you put an "=" sign, and on the other side you have an x over 24. You multiply the .75 times 24, then divide the resulting number by 11. The answer comes out to 1.63xxx which means the length of the ring/braid/whatever is 1.63" on a 24" dred.

Just thought I'd share how I figured it out to give back to all of you who have helped me. I'm sure someone has probably done something like this in the past here, but I couldn't find any details on the measurements of the rings, so I wanted to help out if at all possible.

I'll post pics once I get the rings made.

Interesting- thanks for the heads up, skunk- one of the other posts I'd read said that the person used 24" lengths so I simply went with that. I'm not going to be too picky at this point, as I'm just happy to be putting this suit together. I just didn't want my rings/beads/whatever to look like Playschool size. biggrin.gif
